Some of you may already be aware of the up and coming major update from
Google called “Caffeine”. Reported to speed up search results and make
the results even more relevant for the searcher, YAY!
In the past major Google search updates have not gone unnoticed,
without striking fear into you all too much, the previous major Google
updates (2003 and 2005/2006) did see some “shift” in the search engine
results, sites did drop, others benefiting from the index update.
Based on previous reports from Google / Matt Cutts this update is heavily back end and there should not be a great deal of interruption to the search engine results. All that said and done each time we’ve been through these updates we have experienced a “disturbance in the force” so my bet is Caffeine will result in a shift in the search landscape; sites are going to feel this in some degree.
When can we expect the Google Caffeine update you ask?
Matt tells us that the update will be rolled out after the holiday period (nice, we get to relax thinking about what may happen to our sites).
So, in the mean time I suggest we all sit tight and maintain current web marketing tactics, good copy, linking, search engine and directory submissions.

I believe you can test out the caffeine results in advance. I did notice some shift with my sites but for the most part it looks like an advantage overall. I did see some competitors drop off, so it will be a moody January!
You can check my site about this topic. I know some of our custom papers have some information about this caffeine.
