Is Your Website Worth The Optimization Effort?

Search engine optimization takes time. You can’t simply “wing it”. In order to find success it’s important to develop a strategy that will be executed over the long term. SEO is ongoing. It never really “ends”. As long as the Internet exists, it’s important to keep up with SEO. Due to the time commitment that should be made to doing SEO, the first step is to have a website that’s worth optimizing. An SEO campaign can deliver some great traffic, but if that traffic is being directed to a bad website, what’s the point? Before starting an SEO campaign it’s important to ensure that your website has the following characteristics:

It’s user friendly
Website visitors should be able to quickly and easily find the information that they are looking for. This is achieved by incorporating good navigation, breadcrumbs, and links into the site structure. If you reference another internal page on your site, link to it. Don’t make people go looking for it. Page load time is also a factor. Make sure that all of the pages of your site load within a few seconds.

It has good content

The content that you have on your site can make or break you. Think about what visitors to your site want to know and provide them will all of the necessary information. You don’t want to leave them scratching their head wondering what you offer or how to contact you. All of the content should be relevant, don’t have extraneous “stuff” on your website that contributes nothing. Be sure to watch for careless and sloppy grammar and spelling errors. Some people might not notice these mistakes, but many will and it could ruin your chances of doing business with them.

It has a nice design
Your website should be “easy on the eyes”. Just as people judge books by the cover, they also judge businesses by the look of its website. If your website looks like it was designed in 1998, it makes you seem outdated. There is really no excuse. If your website is old, take the time and spend the money to update it.

It makes it easy to convert
Once you determine the purpose of your website, what the business goals are, and what kind of conversions you are looking to get it’s important to set up the site so that it’s easy for visitors to convert. Whether you want them to make a purchase, fill out a form, or call for an appointment, make it simple to find the information to do so. Call to actions should be strategically placed on each page.

You may think that your website meets all of the above guidelines, but sometimes when you are the one working on the website your judgment can be blurred. It’s always a good idea to get some extra opinions. Ask friends and colleagues what they think and maybe even hire an internet marketing consultant to review your website to look for flaws or to point out opportunities that you could be missing out on. Once these steps have been taken, you will be able to get the most out of an SEO campaign.

  1. Hi, thanks to Brick Marketing for the post.
I would like to hope that I have taken the necessary steps to optimizing my own blog. I personally feel that it is user friendly, as I have a search bar, as well as a category drop down box. The design is unique and attractive, easy on the eyes, plus full of content. Plus, I have a call to action to subscribe and I interlink between posts. Hopefully, as it’s only been since Nov, about 5 months now, that all of this effort will provide more and more SE traffic.
    Thank you and take care.

All those points are so vital and important. I would like to see some points be elaborated more or even demonstrated on some example.

    Thank you for that article.
