strategically placing keywords and links on web pages have had to make
room for other efforts.

Let’s go over a few reasons why SEO is
more marketing than technical:

1.  Keyword Research: When
you start trying to find keywords for your industry you have to step
into the shoes of your audience and try to anticipate what they might be
typing in to search for your similar product or service. This is a
highly important marketing step that has much less technical attributes
and more of a marketing approach.

2.  Link Building: Link
building has evolved significantly over the years. You ask individuals
that might not be completely up to par with the industry they will tell
you that there is no marketing when it comes to link building. Read some
of the most up to date search engine marketing blogs and they will tell
you that it is a complex system of marketing efforts. This approach
then generates links and rankings as a bi-product. If you are targeting
links in your article you want your article to be visible where your
audience is hanging out. If you are targeting PR you want your PR to be
read by your audience. In order for your marketing materials to be found
by your audience you have to be able to put on your marketing hat to
get the job done right.

3. Social Media Marketing: I don’t
care what anyone tells you the social media landscape changed the way
SEO is done. It has opened a whole new area to be visible in and a very
important area to be visible in. You have to really be a marketer to get
in front of your audience in the social media landscape otherwise you
will crash and burn.

SEO is a full on marketing sport now. It is
an area that requires you to understand your audience which requires you
to be a strong marketer. The search engine optimization industry is a
giant community and the SEO professionals that approach it that way will
find their audience much more efficiently.
