Google, Yahoo, Bing and Michael Jackson

I no sooner sat down at my desk this morning to find out that my friend
and yours Michael Jackson had passed due to a massive heart attack.

A somber moment for the entire world as I’m sure he touched many people, I even had a few cassettes of his back in the day.

This then got me thinking (thanks to Danny Sullivan’s tweet) – here’s a good test for the top three, Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Search is all about providing up-to-date information and quickly, what better way to test the top three than do a simple search for “Michael Jackson” and see what the 3 engines return:

(This test was conducted at about 5 PM EST)

Bing: nothing about his death until the bottom of the 1st page

(I was unable to get a screen dump of this due to connection difficulties)

Yahoo!: same as Bing, news results at the bottom of the page

Google: The only engine that appears to be on top of things, news results about Jacko’s passing at the top of the first search results page.

And we wonder why Google is the number one search engine!

RIP Michael Jackson 06/25/2009

Very interesting. I think that Google isn’t as good as it used to be, but it is still by far the best.
I noticed that within a few hours, Wikipedia had already been updated too.

    Thanks for the interesting information.
