Ooops! We did it again…We just passed the 2 million mark (up 100% from last month).

AddThis is now serving over 2 million buttons each day, which brings us to a total of over 100 million buttons served since we launched back in October at DEMO.

Thank you, to all of you for using our widgets and for sending us constant feedback so we can continue to improve our service.

To mark this event we have decided to release some interesting statistics based on data we have gathered since we launched. The statistics show the relative popularity of the bookmarking services and feed readers we support. Note: ‘Favorites’ here means all bookmarks saved locally (in the browser, and for any type of browser).

Bookmarking Services

Feed Reader Services

The graph for bookmarking services looks as we expected, but we were surprised to see how popular Google Readers has become, especially compared to Bloglines.

We will soon make these kinds of statistics available for web publishers, in their AddThis account, so they can have a better idea of where their content is bookmarked or fed to. Interestingly, these charts will look very different from site to site.

Just when you believed you had all your SEO tactics figured out, the web goes
and changes on you. Not just the rules of the game but it takes the whole web
platform right out from under your feet and changes it. What's a poor webmaster
to do?

Web 2.0 changes the whole ballgame. It not only places the Internet user
squarely in the middle of things, but it gives that user the means and power to
create and manipulate data. Web 2.0 dramatically changes how we view and use the
web. Actually, in many respects, it creates a whole new Internet.

Last month we said the number of AddThis buttons served each day would probably reach the 1,000,000 milestone by the end of January. After writing that entry, we looked at each other and said: “Can we really do this? Maybe we should have said February!”.

Well, we are happy to report that our prediction was absolutely on target. As of yesterday, AddThis is serving over 1,000,000 buttons per day. To put it into perspective, that’s about 40,000/hour, 700/minute, or 11/sec. Not bad…except for the bandwidth, ouch!

So moving to new servers was an absolute must if we wanted to continue to provide a reliable service and a fast delivery of the buttons. Maybe this is a good time for removing that BETA sign from our website.

Anyway, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for using the button. Please continue to spread the word.

Have you created your own Custom Search Engine (CSE) since Google announced in late October that they had launched this tool? One of the huge benefits of the user generated Google CSE is that they may turn up in Google OneBox results if one becomes popular enough and people choose it as a trusted source. Nobody has confirmed that yet, but it was one of the benefits of the previous generation Google Co-op "Subscribed Links" program, which is profiled after its launch in a Danny Sullivan post at Search Engine Watch blog back on May 10th of this year when Google announced Co-op.
