The SEO marketing industry gets a bit more out of control each and every day which is why it is so important to keep yourself as educated as possible on each change. The industry has sort of spiraled out of control over the last few years primarily because of the level of efforts that have focused around creating new and exciting web based platforms for more content and communication in the online space. Before the boom and explosion of the website content industry and the severe abundance of social networking tools SEO was a bit more technical. Results could be seen a bit more quickly due to a lot less clutter sitting around in search engine results. SEO has changed quite a bit by definition and for good reason. The shift in change and energy is a great shift for the marketers of the world.
Here are some reasons why SEO has shifted to more of a marketing role:
Content: Five years ago you didn’t have half as many websites that funneled the amount of news feeds and articles that there are now. With more than half the amount of content floating around now it takes much greater force to push anything through the search engines to become visible. There is a lot of clutter in the search engines, more than ever before and it will continue to grow which is why it will become even more important for businesses to really focus on building their brand while utilizing SEO techniques to get the job done. Content has over grown the search space really creating an obstacle for business truly trying to brand themselves with good quality content and information.
Social Networking: Some of us can’t even remember what we did before social media really existed. I remember when MySpace took the world by storm and before that people actually made friends in person rather than behind the computer screen. Some will argue that social media has nothing to do with search engine optimization and by definition that might be true but if the goal of SEO is to create an inbound traffic stream an SEO campaign must include some social media and networking aspects to it. The search engines read everything and if they are reading what you are doing and they see you are utilizing the social media terrain your SEO efforts will grow much more in strength. The process of society being able to communicate with people all over the world real time right from the comfort of their own home has changed everything. It is a fundamental change within the walls of society and has completely altered the way a business needs to market themselves. Search engine marketing now consumes many different approaches not just search rankings. An approach that didn’t exist 5 years ago is simply normality in today’s marketing departments and offices all over the globe.
Video Sharing: Video sharing has become a very important part of SEO as well. I still see people who try to take the same approach to search engine optimization that existed years ago completely avoiding some very important aspects such as video sharing websites. Video sharing has made the branding and marketing aspect of infiltrating the search results a very important ingredient when it comes to marketing a business online. You can’t just put out hundreds of videos and hope that you manipulate the search results in some sort of way. Good quality videos put out sparingly will most likely penetrate your audience with greater force than using an SEO mindset from years ago.
Search engine marketing is always evolving and sticking to techniques that are clearly outdated will not do anything for your long term growth. The need for strong branding and tasteful online marketing is more important than ever. This trend will most likely continue to move and grow in the same direction as the internet ages and moves forward.
