Now here's a service Google has offered for some time now which is yet to get enough recognition, Google Trends.
Google Trends is a brilliant service giving you insight into historical search trends, complete with pretty graphs.
XML sitemaps are a proven way of ensuring your website and all its pages are recognized by search engines, creating and submitting or pinging your sitemap to these engines (Google, Yahoo MSN/Live) can often be easier said than done.

Meta Tag How Too

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
A quick post about meta tags this morning - Some of you may find this a bit simple and a no brainer, though the amount of times I'm asked how tags should be used and witness large popular website using meta tags incorrectly I figured this post would not go to waste.
Search engine submission for an existing website may be viewed as redundant,
though there are still a variety of new engines and directories surfacing each day, ensuring that your site is found on all reputable engines and directories is highly recommended (with our without NOFOLLOW).
With Google growing in age and power one continuous effort that will always be on Google's mind will be to consistently try to clean up search results as much as possible and increase the efficiency of their search tool. Weeding out the bad apples and cleaning up search results is always a priority for Google. This is why Google has been vigorously working on their algorithm to only allow sites that utilize all components of internet marketing.

URL Shortening Services

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks
I was looking into URL shortening services recently - there are literally THOUSANDS out there! Of course, I didn't count them all but there does appear to be an abundance.

What is a URL Shortening Service? Good question:

They shorten long URL's making them engaging and easier to work with, really?!

So why do would I want to shorten a URL in the first place? Firstly, if I link to a long unsightly URL within HTML then I could do this via text aka "hyper link" making it appear more orderly. Secondly if I am sending an email, writing documents or on twitter, it optimizes space and makes things look much cleaner.

After a bit of thought I realized, there must be something more to it, what other bits of Internet traffic gold could I get out of these services?

Since I placed myself on the twitter bandwagon I've been using a URL shortening service http://is.gd. I've always wished I could see how many of my twitter URL's are getting clicked, which would give me a greater understanding of what I should be venting and sharing (as I do like the sound of my own voice).

This got me thinking........

Simple SEO Mistakes

I've been a little slack of late with my writing, that and I have been busy working on other projects around the site i.e. NeedMoreHits (keep an eye on your inbox for more information)

So, I was walking down the street looking for some inspiration about what I should be barking on about this time around and then it came to be .. the fundamentals, the simple stuff we STILL sometimes miss when moving "online".

As time goes on we're all getting so caught up in the latest social networking buzz that we seem to forget the fundamentals that need to be covered before we run off and twitter about how we can better use Facebook to build our linked in profile with the help of blogging about WEB 3.0.

Just a quick post today folks.

I trust we're all familiar with the good old Google Page Rank? If not there is a short page about this here http://www.addme.com/page-rank.htm.
